Queries / Partials Update

I have replied to all queries sent before November 2. If you did not receive a request or rejection, please check to see if it's in your spam folder or check to see if you followed submission guidelines (i.e. if you sent an unsolicited attachment, etc, then it was deleted without being opened).

If you followed sub guidelines and did not receive a response, please resubmit using the submission guidelines on LowensteinAssociates.com.

I have replied to all partials requested before September 4. If you did not receive a request for a full or a rejection, please check to see if it's in your spam folder. If you still don't see a response, please follow up and I'll be happy to see where your response went :)

Off to read some more, but let's do a little blog interaction:

Which YA genre do you think seems to be my most submitted for the month of November? I know I'm only on November 2, but it looks like I can already tell what it is.

Hint: it's not paranormal.

A) Urban Fantasy
My baby girl, Morgan! :-) She's the cutest.
B) Sci-fi
C) Contemporary
D) Historical

Leave your answers below, and I'll let you know which one it is when I post my stats in December!

And since I like an image in most blog posts, I'll leave one that will (hopefully definitely) bring a smile to your face.

I'm thankful for...

Happy Thanksgiving!
...my family, who are always there and make me giggle -- and also remind me of where I come from and encourage me with where I'm going.

...my friends, who are always there to encourage me and make me chuckle -- and also remind me that no matter how hard I try, my tiny green TRex arms will never reach the keyboard. (Go team YAYA)

...my mentors, who believed in me enough to give me my start in the industry --- and also encourage me and cheer me on on a day-by-day basis.

...my clients, who are beyond amazing people and incredible authors -- and who are the reason I wake up
every morning excited and ready to go to the office.

...the intern, who always comes into the office with a smile on her face and cracks me up. :-)

...YOU. For following the blog and Twitter and bringing smiles to my face for your awesome comments and wit.

Thanksgiving 2011
And on a very serious note, I'd just like to say that this tshirt is AWESOME and I fully intend to purchase it for next year's festivities.

*grins*

Happy Thanksgiving! What are YOU thankful for this year?

P.S. I know I'm a week early, but I (most likely) won't be posting again until December 1, soooooooo figured I'd wish everyone a happy holidays now :-D

Query Update: October

As in previous posts, here are some current query numbers (note this is for both agents here at LA):

  • Total queries sent from October 1 - 31:  962
  • Queries sent with an unsolicited attachment (aka - automatic delete unread with no response): (this is a HUGE drop from the 53 from last month! *dances*)
  • Queries which led to requested materials: 12 (down by half -- but we received fewer queries, and as like last month -- I felt that there was a lot of the same story. Time travel seemed to be October's theme -- I'm not against it, but I didn't find the right story for me. Would love to see one, though!)
I'm hoping to post again with the November's numbers (I'm at November 1 right now).

If you're curious what September's numbers were, click here.

I'm expecting November's numbers to be much lower since so many people are NaNoWriMo-ing it up this month; however, I could be wrong. What do you think?

NaNoWriMo

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy NANOWRIMO! I know you guys are furiously typing away, and I look forward to reading some FANTASTIC manuscripts in FEB and MARCH (because of course you're going to put it aside, enjoy the holidays, come back to beta /edit, put it aside again and then query me, right?)

:)

What's your NANOWRIMO schedule like? Do you write every day? Once a week? On weekends?

NeoAgent Podcast Series

So Liz Jote and I have been working on this AWESOME new series for everyone.

We figured there are blogs and vlogs --- and while they're informative, there's not really something you can listen to on the go.

So...I'm thrilled to introduce the new NeoAgent podcast, which may be found both at this link or on iTunes (just search for NeoAgent in the iTunes store -- it's free!)

Check it out, and let us know what you think!

Effective Online Marketing Workshop - What Do YOU Want to Know

If anyone is in NYC next week (specifically November 11-12), you should really check out the Backspace Writers Conference. This will be my second time attending (*waves at Chris and Karen*) and they have a really great lineup this season (as usual).

I'll be teaching a bonus workshop at 7 p.m. that Thursday, the 11th. Pasted below is the 'official' announcement, also found on the conference web page. Definitely register if you're interested:

BONUS workshop!
"Who’s Listening to You? Effective Online Marketing"
by Kathleen Ortiz - Thursday evening, 7 - 9 p.m.
From evaluating web site traffic, discussing effective blogging methods, and deciphering the ‘creepy’ term known as branding, this course taught by literary agent Kathleen Ortiz of Lowenstein Associates will cover a variety of online marketing topics so attendees can analyze their current online presence, uncover who their current audience is, who their target audience should be, and what they can do to make it more effective.

I'm in the process of putting together the workshop, and while I have loads of great information to share, I figured there's no one else better to ask than you.

So, as a writer, what do you want to know about online marketing / social media? This is not a course on "How to Create a Blog" or "How to Create a Twitter" account. While I will touch on the various media platforms, this is more so how to utilize them correctly and how to gauge how much of an online presence you should be focusing on depending on where you are in the publishing process (not agented? agented? already published? self-published?). It's definitely not going to be a bunch of "This is the definition of a ReTweet. This is the definition of an @ reply."

Leave your questions in the comments below! Looking forward to seeing what you're interested in knowing.

Query Update: September

As in previous posts, here are some current query numbers (note this is for both agents here at LA):

  • Total queries sent from September 1 - 30:   1,179
  • Queries sent with an unsolicited attachment (aka - automatic delete unread with no response): 53 (down by almost half from last month! Woo hoo!)
  • Queries which led to requested materials: 23* (down by half -- I've been seeing a lot of the same story without a unique twist to really make it stand out)
I'm hoping to post again with the Oct 1 - 31 numbers (I'm at Oct 4 right now).

If you're curious what August's numbers were, click here.

*This request rate is very high for the number of queries  received (even more so when you axe about 100 of them as automatic rejects for the attachments).
